More about this plant

An ornamental deciduous to semi evergreen shrub about 3 to 5 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide with an arching, spreading and rounded habit. Showy fragrant white racemes open around May and June, and the smooth green leaves turn gold, orange and burgundy red in autumn, with woody seed capsules persisting into the following year. It takes full sun or partial shade and adapts to clay, loam, sand or shallow rocky soil at any pH from acid through alkaline, tolerating moist and occasionally wet sites, heavy shade, erosion and most pests and diseases. Use it for borders, foundations, informal hedges, mass plantings and rain gardens; it can sucker at the root and spread.
