More about this plant

Alleghany is a lantanaphyllum viburnum, a hybrid whose leathery, deeply wrinkled dark green leaves 4 to 8 inches long hold late into fall over an arching, erect shrub that mounds and spreads to about 8 to 10 feet each way. Creamy white flowers open in flat topped cymes 3 to 4 inches across in late April and early May, followed by red drupes that ripen to black, though fruit set depends on a cross pollinator nearby. It takes full sun or partial shade in clay, loam or sandy soil with good drainage, is mildly deer resistant, and is used as a coarse textured screen, barrier or foundation mass. NCSU notes the flower scent is not always pleasant.

  • Grows to 10 ft tall and 10 ft wide

Leathery, deeply wrinkled dark green leaves 4 to 8 inches long with lighter undersides that hold late into fall.
