More about this plant

A weeping, purple leaved redbud small enough for a courtyard, reaching only 5 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide with arching, cascading, multi-stemmed branches. Profuse dark rose pea-like flowers arrive before the foliage on bright red stems, then dark maroon-red heart-shaped leaves hang from the pendulous branches, shifting from burgundy toward green through summer and finishing gold-yellow. It grows at a medium rate in sun or partial shade on clay, loam or sand with good drainage, and tolerates black walnut and deer. Bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and songbirds all use it. Use it as an accent, a foundation plant or a specimen beside a patio, a walkway or a pool.
