More about this plant
Kieffer is a rounded pear reaching about 15 to 20 feet tall and 10 to 20 feet wide, with white four to five petalled flowers that open late in the season. It is a heavy bearer of large golden yellow pomes with a crimson blush and white, crisp, coarse flesh that are good for preserves, canning or baking, ripening mid September to mid October. Glossy serrate leaves turn golden bronze in fall and the light gray bark is fissured and scaly over zig zag stems with conspicuous lenticels. Give it full sun of six or more hours a day; it is fire blight resistant and tolerates both drought and flooding, and at least two cultivars are needed for pollination.
