More about this plant
A slow growing, upright to wide spreading multi stemmed shrub or small tree that opens bright yellow flowers with a reddish base from late January into March, before the leaves emerge. Each bloom has four long, narrow, twisted spidery petals that open and close with the weather. The dark green obovate leaves are serrate on the upper half and colour in fall. It wants sun to part shade on acid, organic or clay soil with good drainage and tolerates occasional wet, deer and erosion. Use it at a woodland edge or in a shrub border where its winter bloom is visible.
