More about this plant
Methley is a partially self fruitful Japanese plum that opens sweetly fragrant white flower clusters in early spring, followed by medium to large round to conical fruit with purple to red skin and sweet red flesh ripening from late May to early June. The tree is irregular in form and moderate growing, sold as a dwarf at 8 to 10 feet or a standard near 20 feet. It wants full sun and a well drained loam, tolerates heat, and is susceptible to spring frost damage. Fruit is good fresh or for jelly and the flowers are edible; plant near another Japanese plum for heavier crops. Leaves, stems and pits are reported problematic for cats, dogs and horses.
- Full Sun
- Grows to 20 ft tall and 20 ft wide
- Blooms in spring
- Hardy in USDA zones 5-9
- Deciduous foliage
