More about this plant

A vigorous selection of the native Southern magnolia reaching about 50 feet tall and 40 feet wide with a broad pyramidal form that is more open than 'Bracken’s Brown Beauty'. Leathery leaves 5 to 10 inches long are glossy dark green above with rusty brown felt beneath, and fragrant creamy white saucer shaped flowers open earlier than most Southern magnolias. Cone like fruits ripen in fall and release rose red seeds on slender threads that birds and small mammals eat. It takes sun or part shade in a wide pH range and tolerates salt, wind, wet soil and urban conditions. It needs real room, and expect leaf and fruit litter beneath it.
